Athletics

Choice-Based: We offer campers choices as much as possible during Athletics. Campers have at least 3 activities a day during the half-day of Athletics. For both Junior & Senior campers, one of those periods is a “Choice period”, where they are free to choose from a list of available options. For Junior campers, the other periods are assigned to their counselor, however our Athletics staff is trained to learn the interests of their group and request those activities from our Athletics Director. Senior campers also have an assigned period, but their third period is a “Focus sport”, which is a daily sport they sign up for on the 2nd or 3rd day of camp. During Focus Sport, campers run a couple skill-building drills and scrimmage. The options for Focus vary session to session depending on what our campers are interested in and are not limited to traditional sports.

Confidence Building: Our Athletics program is designed to build confidence. We offer a wide range of flexible activities to meet campers where they are in terms of their interest in sports. For very competitive sports enthusiasts, we have traditional sports where they can compete and learn from our equally enthusiastic staff. For our campers who are less athletically inclined or just don’t enjoy sports in general, we offer gentle encouragement and lots of activities that don’t require pre-mastered athletic skills. Regardless of a camper’s comfort level with an activity, our wonderful staff will be there with them, adjusting their approach and encouraging participation in the way that is most beneficial for that camper.

Engaging: Our wide range of activities and attention to our campers’ interests is an integral part of our goal to make Athletics as engaging as possible. Our true secret ingredient to an engaging program, however, is our staff. Our staff consistently participate and role model trying new things, having great sportsmanship, and both making great plays and making mistakes. They approach each new day and each activity with enthusiasm and energy. They are flexible, creative, and able to adjust activities to best fit the needs of the individual campers that are there. We’re also known for creating new games based on current trends. Past games have been based on Minecraft, the Hunger Games, Minute to Win It, and the Olympics.

Athletics and the weather: Our Director Staff keep a close eye on the weather each day and adjust the schedule accordingly, shifting all activities to our excellent indoor facilities. We have strict inclement weather guidelines, including lightning protocols, as well as heat advisory standards for days when it is Code Red or Code Orange.
