Leadership Training Program

What’s New?

We have updated our former Counselor-in-Training (CIT) program. It is now called our Leadership Training Program, and the new tiers are as follows: Rising 8th graders can do Tier 1: Leader-in-Training (LIT), rising 9th and 10th graders can do Tier 2: Counselor-in-Training (CIT), rising 10th graders (only) can participate in our new Camp Support Internship (CSI) to gain early, behind the scenes knowledge on our camp operations, and act as a bridge between camper and counselor.

(click on arrow to the right of each tier for more information)

  • Tier 1 LITs are rising 8th grade campers who register for at least one session of camp. They will participate in workshops aimed at developing skills in communication, collaboration, self-confidence, goal-setting, authenticity, and more. Tier 1 LITs are not given any responsibilities at camp, and are taken out of their activities for 45-60 minutes every other day for 5 total sessions. The leadership training is with their peers and taught by the Leadership & Training Director. There is no fee to participate but does require enrollment as a camper. The training is repeated each session, so campers can participate at any time during the summer but need only complete once. All applicants are accepted into the program, confirmed via email, and receive a Certificate of Participation upon completion.

  • Tier 2 CITs are rising 9th or 10th graders who are registered for at least one session of camp. CITs are taken out of their activities for 45-60 minutes every day for 10 total sessions for Counselor-specific skill development with their peers which is taught by the Leadership & Training Director. They will participate in workshops aimed at developing skills in behavior management, risk assessment, activity planning, teaching styles, and more. CITs do not have any responsibilities at camp or are left alone with campers at any time. There is no fee to participate but does require enrollment as a camper. The training is repeated each session, so campers can participate at any time during the summer but need only complete once. All applicants are accepted into the program, confirmed via email, and receive a Certificate of Participation upon completion.

  • Tier 3 are Camp Support Interns (CSI) and rising 10th grade campers who participated in the TIC Tier 2 program in a previous session or summer. Rising 10th graders are not required to attend camp as a CSI. They have the choice to enroll as a traditional camper in a tech option OR a Tier 3 CSI.

The camper interns receive hands-on, educational internship experience designed to bridge the gap between camper and counselor. CSIs support camp operations in a learning capacity under direct supervision. They may assist with activities, transitions, and group dynamics, but do not replace paid staff or lead groups independently. In this new program, participants are campers who attend an extra session to support the operations of camp. “Interns” assist in many areas at camp including, social media, technology, and special activities.

The CSI program is a developmental year as campers prepare to apply as a full-time staff member the following year as a Junior Counselor. CSIs can attend for up to two sessions (do not need to be consecutive) at a significantly reduced rate.

To be considered, candidates must register for at least one session of camp and complete the Tier 2 program, be at least 14 years old, complete an application (sent separately after completing the camper registration), and provide one letter of recommendation. Positions are based on enrollment so may not be available every session. Additional documentation will be required including: parent/volunteer agreement with a strict code of conduct and other forms.

CITs earn valuable leadership experience and, if approved by their school, community service (SSL) hours, while continuing to grow within the TIC community.
